A Beloved Musical Gets a Fresh Start

Broadway's beloved musical Once Upon a Mattress is returning to the stage after a record-breaking run at New York City Center.

The new production, which stars two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster and Tony nominee Michael Urie, is a transfer of the record-breaking sold-out run at New York City Centers Encores!

The musical, which was first produced on Broadway in 1959, tells the story of Princess Winnifred, a brave and independent princess who must pass a series of tests in order to marry Prince Dauntless. Along the way, she must outwit the wicked Queen Aggravain, who is determined to keep her son from marrying.

The new production of Once Upon a Mattress has been reinvented for a new generation by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, who also directed the Encores! production. The show features a new book by Tony Award winner John Weidman and a new score by Tony Award winner David Yazbek.

Once Upon a Mattress begins performances on Broadway on November 14th, 2022.
