Post-Lockdown Surge in Theme Park Attendance Slows as Consumers Prioritize Spending

Attendance at Parks Like Disney and Universal Hit by Rising Costs and Summer Heat

Florida Theme Parks Report Decline in April

After a surge in attendance following the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, attendance at popular theme parks like Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort is slowing as consumers become more cautious with their spending, industry experts say.

Rising admission prices and record-breaking summer temperatures are also contributing to the decline, with more people opting to travel abroad instead.

According to industry data, several factors have contributed to the dip in theme park attendance and hotel rentals in April, including an earlier Easter and Spring Break. However, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger attributed the decrease to non-comparable items, such as the opening of Disney Cruise Line's new island destination, Lookout Cay.

The decline in attendance at Walt Disney World is having a tangible impact on Central Florida, which relies heavily on tourism. According to local businesses, crowds at the resort have been noticeably smaller in recent weeks.
