Gainbridge Fieldhouse: A Legacy of Pacers Basketball

Predecessor: Market Square Arena

Before Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Pacers called Market Square Arena (MSA) home. MSA opened in 1974 as the fifth-largest sports arena in the country. It hosted the Pacers from their inception as an American Basketball Association team until 1999.

Unlike modern NBA arenas that evoke historic ballparks, MSA's design reflected its era. It featured a spacious concourse, boxy architecture, and a seating capacity of over 17,000.

In 1999, Gainbridge Fieldhouse opened its doors to replace MSA. Unlike many NBA arenas built in the era, it opted for a modern design that departed from the retro aesthetic.

The fieldhouse's design prioritized fan experience, with improved seating, a spacious atrium, and state-of-the-art amenities. It also became a hub for concerts and other events.
